Happy New Year to All!

Our January meeting, held at the Chef’s Palate in Fort Lauderdale provided a time for celebrating the New Year and looking forward to a fantastic 2010. Our members and guests enjoyed the sumptuous dinner prepared and served by the students at the Ft. Lauderdale Art Institute, Culinary Arts School.

Guests Included:

  • Al & Anne Walleser – Al has transferred his membership from the Miami Club
  • Mark Flager brought his son
  • Sheila Alterman, guest of Paul Alterman
  • Josie Van Tuyl, The Bridge Hotel & Resort
  • John Fatersik
  • Jeffrey Verlotta, Classic Vacations
Our newest member, Todd Stevenson (Holland America Line) was introduced to those in attendance.

Announcement was made that the organization that is reclaiming soap from hotels and charity redistribution, which was highlighted at our September 2009 meeting by member Ron Stevens, is providing support to the earthquake victims in Haiti. More hotels & resorts are actively supporting this effort, by donating the soaps and lotions which they would normally discard.

Dick Stafford announced the slate of Officers and Board of Directors for 2010, with the following elected:
Officers:
  • Teresa Nix, President
  • Beth Cohen, Vice President
  • Paul Cook, Secretary
  • James Hansen, Treasurer
  • Dick Stafford, SIUSA
Board of Directors: Art Stark, Paul Alterman, Mark Flager and Becky Reincke

Carlos Banks remains our Executive Secretary/Treasurer

Carlos Banks announced his candidacy for SIUSA Auditor and was unanimously endorsed by the Board of Directors. We are sending a letter of endorsement on his behalf.

Paul Alterman has been appointed to chair the committee for our planned charitable fund-raiser. Details are forthcoming.
