Greetings Fellow Skalleagues!

The Holiday Inn Highland Beach provided a beautiful backdrop for our June meeting! Our opening toast was presented by Art Stark and the closing toast by Carlos Banks.

Dick Stafford announced the death last weekend of Jim Power, Skal International Secretary General and provided a few highlights of his accomplishments. Honoring Jim, with a moment of silence was observed by those in attendance. Jim was a strong supporter, not only of Skal International, but also was of great assistance when our club merged to become Skal International Ft. Lauderdale & Palm Beaches and other issues we have had throughout recent years. Jim will be greatly missed by all!

19 Members and the following Guests were in attendance:
Anne Walleser, Guest of Al Walleser
Terry Gilchrist, Guest of Sharon Malone
Mike Hartfield, Former Member
Alma Reibstein, Potential Member
Marianne Cassidy, Wife of Scotty Cassidy
J.P. Hartfield, Wife of Mike Hartfield

Announcement that Skal International Ft. Lauderdale & Palm Beaches is a finalist for Skal International CLUB OF THE YEAR was made. This is a great honor for our club and it’s the second time in the last 4 years that we have received this distinction. Dick Stafford, Carlos Banks and I will be preparing our club's presentation and submitting it to Skal International.

Carlos Banks made the announcement that membership cards have been mailed to those members who have not attended a recent meeting. Please contact Carlos if you have not yet received your membership card.

Paul Alterman is finalizing plans for our charity fund-raiser. Current plans are to host the event in April 2011. Paul will be providing further updates and asking for volunteer assistance in various capacities during the coming months. Contact Paul should you have any suggestions or would like to help.

Art Stark, Beth Cohen and Sharon Malone are making exciting / fun plans for our Summer Social. Final details for the event (tentatively to be held in early August) will be forthcoming in the next two – three weeks. Watch for the details and plan to bring a qualified, prospective member!!

REPORT BY TASK FORCE ON REPOSITIONING OF SKÅL

Dear Skålleagues,

The most recent update of the Task Force document on the repositioning of Skål, dated 24 May 2010 can be found by clicking here. The document is also available on the members only area of the Skål International website.

The document was presented to the meeting of the International Skål Council held in Quebec on 3 May 2010.

The Executive Committee of Skål International discussed the document during its meeting held in Quebec on 5 May 2010. The Executive Committee decided, before making any comment on the document to consult the membership as the document contained some major changes for the future of the organisation.

The Executive Committee therefore requests that the Clubs worldwide discuss this document at length prior to 31 July 2010 and to send their comments to the Secretary General at skal@skal.travel with copy to Thomas Vincent, Chairman of the Task Force at thomasvincent@globalhospitalityinc.com.

For the information of members the Task Force was set up by the Executive Committee during its meeting held in Paris in April 2009. The Task Force was asked to study, summarize and recommend changes the members would like to see in the future direction of Skal.

As this is an important document for the future of Skål, I would ask you to give it your urgent attention and we look forward to receiving your comments by the deadline of 31 July 2010.

Best regards and Skål

Nik Racic
President
