Fellow Skålleagues!

I hope that you are enjoying the benefits of winter in Florida!

In conjunction with Sea Trade, an annual, major industry event, our chapter meeting was held in Fort Lauderdale at the Hyatt Place Hotel and Café Mezzaluna. We'd like to thank Helge Moller for visiting us all the way from Skål in Bergen, Norway. Helge sends special thanks and warm wishes to our club, and is proud to return home with our chapter flag. Also during the dinner we were pleased to announce that the winner of the 2017 Venue of the Year Award was the Riverside Hotel in Ft Lauderdale where we held our club's 40th Anniversary Party in June last year. The award plaque will be presented to the Riverside at next month's dinner meeting.

This past weekend, we honored our good friend, Paul Cook, in his home and hosted by his lovely daughter, Nicole. Paul's good friends, including members of our chapter were in attendance, to remember a great man. A few of his closest companions made touching speeches. Everyone seemed to agree, that most of all, they will always remember Paul's smiling personality. Carlos played the video that was created with pictures of Paul from our different events, and was able to speak a few words on behalf of our chapter. Skål meant a great deal to our friend, Paul, and we will miss him very much.

A great Skål chapter is always finding new ways to grow. One of the ways that we can grow our membership and interest in our club is through this social media. I know that not everyone uses the same "app for that," but we set up a Facebook page, a LinkedIn page, and an Instagram page. Look for Skål Fort Lauderdale and the Palm Beaches, and you'll find us there! If you have other great ideas on growing our chapter, we'd love to know!
